Olin Corporation's Arthur Hamby Jr. Named Chlorine Institute 2018 Peter Mayo Award Honoree

Houston, April 10, 2019 (NewMediaWire) -- Mr. Arthur Hamby Jr., North American Equipment Logistics manager for Olin Corporation in Cleveland, TN, received The Chlorine Institute’s 2018 Peter M. Mayo Award at the Institute’s Annual Meeting in Houston.

In 2004, The Chlorine Institute (CI) created the Peter M. Mayo award to recognize an individual for service and safety leadership in the chlorine industry through participation in The Chlorine Institute. Sponsored by CI’s Board of Directors, the award is a living memorial to Peter M. Mayo, a leader in the industry, a strong supporter of safety excellence, and an active participant in CI for more than 30 years.

Arthur began his career with Olin Corporation in 1974 when he was hired into the Calcium Hypochlorite plant in Charleston, TN, while attending Cleveland State Community College. Over the course of his 45-year career, he has held multiple titles and served in various roles at Olin.

Mr. Hamby has brought extensive chlor-alkali industry experience to the CI Transportation Issue Team since 2010, including stints as Chairperson and Vice Chair. For nearly a decade, he has served on or led numerous task groups within this issue team. Mr. Hamby is a resource to a variety of others in the Chlor-Alkali community when issues arise, regulatory concerns are identified, or suggested approaches for communicating with regulatory agencies (Federal Railroad Association, U.S. Coast Guard & U.S. Department of Transportation) are needed.

In presenting the award, CI Chairperson, Mr. Tom Tirabassi said Mr. Hamby is “an exemplary embodiment of what the Pete Mayo award stands for,” and that his “dedication and commitment to the mission of safety and Aiming for Zero are exceptional.”
