Museum to Honor Filipino Pioneer and Bruce Lee Student

(NewMediaWire) - January 19, 2017 - Burbank, CA – This Saturday, January 21, 2017, the Martial Arts History Museum will be paying a special tribute to one of the pioneers of the Filipino arts; Richard Bustillo. The ceremony, which will take place at the museum at 4 pm, will highlight the life of this martial arts icon and one of the last remaining students of famed martial arts hero, Bruce Lee.

Bustillo is considered one of the most notable practitioners of the Filipino art of Kali also known as Escrima. An ancient form of fighting that was brought to light by Filipino warrior Lapu-Lapu in the 1500s. Inducted into the Martial Arts History Museum’s Hall of Fame in 2001, Bustillo has been one of the biggest advocates of Filipino art, culture and history.

“I encourage the Filipino community to gather at the museum to honor this great legend of the Philippine people. Over the last five decades, Richard has opened the doors to this and future generations and it will be an honor to celebrate his life at the museum,” says museum president Michael Matsuda.

Bustillo is also one of the earliest and primary students of the late martial arts icon Bruce Lee. Lee created a new concept of fighting he called Jeet Kune Do which he handed down to his students to promote of which Bustillo was one of.

Today, Bustillo hosts countless seminars and workshops across the world highlight Bruce Lee’s teachings and Filipino art forms.
